Hilary Sinclair

Profile

Hilary took up painting as a hobby in the early 2000s, whilst working as a community nurse in Highworth and Swindon. Art and career went hand in hand, and along the way she has taken lessons and course with painters she admires, gradually improving skills and experience. Starting with watercolour and then becoming hooked on oil painting, Hilary still paints in both mediums.

Now retired from the NHS and enjoying more free time, Hilary particularly enjoys painting floral still life set ups in her home studio, and has a loose but representational style, often compared to an old master type effect.

Landscapes, cows, and figurative subjects are also top of the favourites list – when there is time!

Hilary is currently working on a plein air project painting Coate Water Country Park throughout the year and hopes to exhibit this next year with Swindon Open Studios.

As well as being an active participant and publicity committee member at Highworth Artists Society, she also exhibits with Lechlade Artists Society and Faringdon Art Society. She has taken part in Swindon Open Studios and enjoys the community side of artistic life.

Hilary teaches watercolour with Liddington art group and in 2025 will be running a six week Watercolour Essentials course in Highworth. For details and booking please see the events page.
