Gillian is a watercolour artist, specialising in botanical illustrations. As a child she always had a pencil in her hand but as she grew older and life interrupted, the pencils were put aside. Other creative pursuits were always in evidence, especially embroidery, but then around 2004 the desire to paint watercolours arose and Gillian joined a local evening class. Early attempts resembled cave paintings but suddenly something clicked and a budding artist emerged.

Encouraged by her tutor and her progress, she attended various courses with professional artists and it became clear that botanical art was her forte. Every one of her pictures has a story as they are all personal to her – from growing the bulbs to birthday bouquets, floral portraits have been created. There is also a selection of fruit and vegetables Illustrated in an accurate yet contemporary manner. She describes these as “kitchen pictures” as they are perfect for creating that country kitchen look in their rustic frames.

In 2012, as a result of exhibiting her work, Gillian was invited to become a member of the Ventnor Botanical Art Society, IOW. An honour and a delight.

These days, set free from years on the corporate merry-go-round Gillian can frequently be found at craft fairs and exhibitions around the South West where she sells her work which includes prints, the kitchen pictures and greetings cards. She also welcomes commissions.
